Sunday November 27th Bibury walk
27 ramblers assembled by the river at Bibury on a beautiful sunny and warm November morning. The walk started by crossing the river and going towards Arlington Mill and then along the back of Rack Isle to Arlington Row. It then climbed up the hill past the cottages on to a footpath heading for Ready Token. After half a mile, it turnedleft on to a broad bridleway which skirted fields and went through a hidden valley to the old roman road of Akeman Street. After about three hundred yards along here, it re-entered the fields along on another bridleway which eventually led to the road between Coln St Aldwyns and Qennington. We had a coffee stop on the hill above this road.
At the road, the walk turned right up into Quenington and right again by the war memorial on to a road which eventually led to a footpath heading for the river Coln, and the road leading back into Coln St Aldwyns. Here we passed the seat dedicated to the village Post Mistress and the Alms Houses built in memory of the Countess St Aldwyn from the stone and timber recovered from some modifications carried out on Williamstrip Park. Then on past the church, down a footpath to the millstream. From here, the road finally brought us back to the bridge over the main part of the Coln. The walk went along the river bank to the edge of a wood where we found a lovely sunny place to stop for lunch. The walk continued through the wood along by the river finally turning up a path which eventually led us past Bibury Court Hotel.
We then went along the road, and down a path leading to Bibury Church eventually coming out by the river and back to the cars.
